Shipping and Storage Tips for Tire Repair Materials

May 12,2026

Tire repair materials belong to rubber and chemical consumables, including tire repair rubber strips, cold repair film, vulcanized glue, balance weights, etc. Their performance stability is directly affected by transportation conditions and storage environment. In the daily stocking, logistics transportation, and warehouse management of the workshop, improper methods can easily lead to problems such as aging, adhesion, loss of adhesion, rust, deformation, etc., which not only affect the effectiveness of use, but also cause waste of consumables and increase maintenance costs. Below, based on the actual usage experience of auto repair shops and warehouses, we share a set of practical and practical suggestions for the transportation and storage of tire repair materials.

1. Characteristics and precautions of common repair materials

Tire repair rubber strips, cold repair films, vulcanizing agents, adhesives, etc. are mainly composed of butyl rubber, natural rubber, and chemical vulcanizing agents, and are sensitive to temperature, humidity, and light. The balance block is mainly made of metal material, and its surface has been galvanized, sprayed or treated with Dacromet. It is prone to oxidation and rusting when exposed to moisture. Therefore, corresponding protective measures should be taken according to the characteristics of different materials during transportation and storage to avoid product failure caused by environmental issues.

2. Key points to note during transportation

(1). Avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures

During transportation, do not expose to sunlight for a long time. The carriage should be kept ventilated and shaded. High temperature environments can easily cause premature vulcanization of rubber strips and films, resulting in softening, sticking, and clumping, which can lead to abnormal use.

(2). Prevent squeezing, heavy pressure, and falling

Film and strip products have relatively soft packaging and are prone to deformation and damage under heavy pressure; The balance block is a hard product, and severe collision may cause deformation of the hook and detachment of the coating. When loading, it should be neatly arranged and classified into compartments to avoid heavy objects pressing on top.

(3). Keep dry and avoid exposure to rain and moisture

Rainproof measures should be taken inside the carriage to prevent rainwater from seeping in. Adhesive and vulcanizing agent products are prone to failure when exposed to water; Long term moisture exposure of metal balance blocks can cause rust spots, affecting their appearance and adhesion.

(4). Standard placement of dangerous goods

Vulcanized glue, cleaning agents, and other flammable chemicals should be transported away from sources of fire and heat, placed separately, and not mixed with food or electrical appliances. Road transportation regulations should be followed to ensure safety.

3. Requirements for Warehouse Storage Environment

(1). Cool and dry, suitable temperature

The warehouse should be kept ventilated, dry, and cool, with the optimal storage temperature between 5 ℃ and 30 ℃. Avoid getting close to heating systems, generators, and direct sunlight on windowsills to prevent materials from aging due to heat.

(2). Protect from light and extend lifespan

Rubber and chemical consumables should avoid long-term exposure to strong light, which can accelerate the hardening, brittleness, and cracking of rubber, as well as cause the glue to evaporate and become ineffective. It is recommended to store it in a dark shelf or in its original packaging.

(3). Keep away from the ground and walls, moisture-proof and mildew proof

It is recommended to store on shelves and avoid direct contact with the ground and walls to prevent the product from getting damp, rusting, or moldy due to moisture regain on the ground. A humid environment can seriously affect the adhesion of the film and the anti rust layer of the balance block.

(4). Classified placement for easy management

Different types of consumables are stored separately: film and adhesive strips are placed in one category, glue is placed in another category, and metal balance blocks are placed separately. Implement first in, first out and first in, first use to avoid long-term backlog and expiration.

4.  Specific storage methods for various materials

(1). Tire repair strip

Keep the original bag sealed to prevent dust and moisture from entering; Do not bend or pull, maintain a straight state; Avoid mixing with oil stains and chemicals.

(2). Cold repair film

Keep the original packaging isolation film and do not tear it off in advance; Prevent overlapping compression and prevent film from sticking to each other; Use up as soon as possible after opening, and seal the remaining part in a timely manner.

(3). Vulcanized glue, cleaning agent

Tighten the bottle cap, place it upright, away from sources of fire; Do not invert or leak, to prevent volatilization and leakage; After opening, try to use it up as soon as possible to ensure its adhesive effect.

Daily management tips

Auto repair shops and warehouses can establish a simple consumables management system: regularly inspect the storage environment, promptly clean up expired, aging, and deteriorated materials; After purchasing, make date markings and follow the principle of "first in, first out"; Handle with care during transportation and handling to reduce unnecessary wear and tear.
The correct transportation and storage methods not only ensure stable performance and reliable repair quality of tire repair materials, but also effectively reduce consumables waste and improve workshop efficiency. I hope the above suggestions can provide practical reference for the automotive repair industry in terms of consumables management.
